STORY TIME AT THE LIBRARY

Last weekend our local library had a story time for children.  We had a lot of fun listening to stories and creating crafts.  Here is some of what we did. Books and fun are an important part of every community.

The Prisoner's Dilemma: The Key to Creativity - August Turak, Forbes

"I was having lunch with one of my clients, the CEO of a rapidly growing mid-size company, when I casually asked for his job description. He smiled and said, “Well, if you followed me around you’d probably think I do lots of things. But I only have one job. I build   passion . Most people think talent is in short supply. Hell, the papers are full of stories about regular folks working miracles when something they really care about is on the line. Talent is not in short supply. Passion is. My job is showing people that what we’re doing is worth doing. I provide the whys   so our people can provide the   hows . Once passion is in place,” he said with a big grin, “my job becomes insisting that people use their vacation and trying to stay out of the way. In a previous article,   8 Keys to Innovation: Building Brands by Killing Frogs , I noted that prisoners are some of the most creative and innovative people. Turning toothpaste tubes into lethal weapons demonstrates their improvisatio

12 High-Tech & 3D Printer Design Ideas

Image
By Steph in Architecture & Design , Gadgets & Geek Art , Technology & Futurism It’s the 21st century – so why are printers still so bulky, ugly and wasteful? The time is ripe for printers that fit into the world of iPods, cell phones and paper-thin computers, and concept designers are stepping up to the plate with incredible visions of the future. Tiny stick printers that can go anywhere, printers that use pencil stubs or even coffee dregs in lieu of ink cartridges, printers that can erase and reuse paper. Some designs go further still, transcending mere ink to produce three-dimensional objects and even food. Printing with a Pencil Stub (images via: yanko design ) The problem with printers is, if you make a mistake, there’s no way to erase it. You simply have to start all over again, wasting both ink and a sheet of paper. So why not use graphite instead? This creative printer concept by Hoyoung Lee does t

13 Futuristic 3D Scanner & Printer Designs

By Delana in Architecture & Design , Gadgets & Geek Art , Technology & Futurism Manufacturing is about to undergo its biggest transformation ever, but it won’t come with big factories and a booming work force: it will happen with the use of small-scale 3D printers. Imagine being able to create just about anything you will ever want or need with little more than the push of a button. Everything can be made on demand, so there’s no waste and no need for warehouses to store loads of inventory. Although the materials and exact mechanisms vary, 3D printers all work in basically the same way: they build 2D layer upon 2D layer of material, following a three-dimensional guide, to create a 3D object. It sounds futuristic, but it’s happening right now thanks to 3D printers – and there’s no telling how far we can take this promising technology. (images via: Gajitz ) 3D printing isn’t new by any means. It’s been aroun

By Marc in Furniture & Interiors , Gadgets & Geek Art , Technology & Futurism As steampunk connoisseurs and hobbyists become veterans at their craft, they’ve been increasingly turning their cog-loving eyes toward their most modern fixtures: their computer and accessories. Take a look at 36 of the most breathtaking steampunk computer mods: (Images via techchee , toxel , freepeople , desktopped ) Computer monitors have always been drab affairs, but they’re also the focal point of any steampunk project. Old monitors are a great fit for large cabinet-style setups, while the more modern flat screens are perfect for the sleek elegant look. What’s the use of having a beautifully modified monitor if the rest of your setup screams Office Max? (Images via gizmodo , unlacethevictorians , gadgetsin , toxel ,

20 Awesome Gun and Bullet Artworks

Image
By Steph in Urban & Street Art There are artists who work with paint and clay, and then there are artists who create bizarre and thought-provoking art from slightly less conventional materials to prove a point. This collection features sculptures made from guns and bullets, high-speed bullet photography, illustrations of what happens when bullets pierce flesh and even drawings made by shooting at metal and paper with a sub-machine gun. Reliquaries Made of Guns and Ammunition (images via: Al Farrow ) Artist Al Farrow combined religious imagery with guns and bullets to startling effect in his 2001 series, ‘ Reliquaries ’. The sculptures are an ironic play on the medieval cult of the relic as well as a statement about continued ties between war and religion. Farrow says that in the making of these pieces, he was absolutely astonished at the ease with which one can procure huge amounts of gun related paraphernalia. Hig
